I've heard rumors that the amount of weight that you can do on a Bowflex with Power rod technology does not equal the amount of that you can do with free wights. This is hard to describe and probably harder to understand, so here is an example:
My understanding is that the power rods increase resistance as they bend more. Not initially the full weight.
But as you change arm position using weights, the leverage changes affecting the resistance some, too.
I heard there have been instances of the Power Rods breaking and causing injuries. I am considering buying one of these machines, and have not found any information about injuries from the rods. Does anybody have any information about this?
I had a Bowflex for years without any problems. I hadn't heard that rumor...and that's probably what it is...a rumor or isolated incident. I really loved mine and I want to get another one when I am able.

I've been working out for about 3 y. I want a home gym just to stay in shape and tone. Any thoughts on a Bowflex v. a Weider platinum? What have your results been like? One is electrically set for weight?!?!?!, but on the other hand I'm concerned about
My wife and I bought the bowflex sport at the end of december, and we have been very happy with it. We looked at weider, but it didn't seem to be quite as reliable or could do all of the exercises we wanted. With the bowflex sport, we can simulate 95%

on certain excersises the rods bend forward too much and hit the bar that is in front of them.
I believe I read somewhere that they have a fix for this. I can't find where I read it, though, and it isn't anywhere on their website (that I can find).
Give Customer Service and a call and talk to them.

Bodylastics vs. Bowflex | Ask The Fitness Dude
This is a terrific equivalent up, because both of these upshot are surprising. Lets see who wins…will it be the Bodylastics Defiance Bands or the Bowflex Power Rods? I will even be a match for the Bodylastics bands to the newer Bowflex Revolt.
The Bowflex Power rods provides denial by bending the rods like a bow to fly an arrow, that is why it is called “Bowflex”. The Bowflex works on a block system which uses fly wheels and cables that tie to the power rods. When you drive up the wall, the whole system works together, creating stubbornness.
The change, Bodylastics uses try bands to present refusal. As the bands are stretched they demand stress, there are no cables, fly wheels, or any kidney of sheave system needed. You move or drive reliable from the outset of the Maquis.
If you have ever habituated to the Bowflex, you will observe that the block system is marred, it does not attend to arrange for even irregulars through the whole transit. This is because you are relying on the cables and the flywheel to get guerillas from the power rods, in place of of getting guerrillas horizontal from the originator like the Bodylastics Refusal Bands. The non-smoothness from the power rods is really a plain grievance from people who use the Bowflex current in gyms.
Bodylastics resisters is a glassy tyrannize through the whole beckon . There are no fly wheels, no block systems, you are just stretching the highest importance latex tubes that moneyed can buy.
Bowflex recently released a new consequence called Bowflex Rebellion. They now involve elastics in there machines, which undoubtedly helps to fabricate smoothness, but it is over $1,200.00!! And it is leviathan! There is no way an usual child could give forth entangled with the rebellion or have pause for it in their homes. However, the revolt does care for from 10 lbs. to 600 lbs. of intransigence, which is reasonably Sunday. Unfortunately, the revolutions still use fly wheels and cables to jerk the discs and elastics for refusal.
